The Dunn Building is home to Dalhousie University's Physics department along with part of the Engineering department G.F. Duffus & Co. Ltd was initially asked to consult on masonry repairs for the exterior of the building in 2000 and again 2002. Ultimately a complete Exterior Envelope Conservation plan was put together in 2008 and led to the major project begun in 2009 that included: the rebuilding of the parapets and the west entry stairs; repointing the masonry; installing additional masonry ties and grouting the backup wall; the replacement of all the windows with a new double glazed window that replicated the historic profiles; and the installation of a new barrier free access ramp on the east elevation.
